Managing Inventory and Non-Inventory

In Shop Boss, we have two different types of inventory files. One is inventory that will actually keep stock of items in your shop and the other is non inventory which could include items such as a price list from a particular vendor or Parts that you don't normally use but need still keep track of.

You can manage both of these lists by clicking on the Inventory button from the work-in-process. In the main inventory screen you will see a list of parts that you have in inventory. You can search for a particular part in the search box above the list. As you type the list will filter down to find the part you are looking for. If you wish to  search the non-inventory part list, at the top right click the drop-down box and change it from inventory to non inventory.

Once you have the item that you want to change in front of you, click it to make changes.

Maintain Stock is the option to put the Part in Inventory or Non-Inventory. Yes will Maintain the Stock in your Inventory and No will put it in your Non-Inventory list.

If you use a Part from your Inventory list it will show the RO and PS(Part Sale) #'s on your Inventory Part, if you use a Non-Inventory Part it will show the RO and PS #'s on your Non-Inventory List.

These lists are separate and will not have the same RO and PS #'s on both lists even if you have the same part on both lists.

Using a scanner:

If a scanner is used to enter inventory info, only a scanner with a USB port is compatible. A bar code scanner and bar codes will have to be purchased by your shop.  When the USB scanner is plugged in to the same device logged into Shop Boss, the part number can be added to inventory when the cursor is on the part number box. Scan the bar code, and he device will populate the scanned part number into the placeholder .  The rest of the information such as part description, cost, etc..  will have to be manually entered before the inventoried part can be saved.
